Wells Fargo Championship raises $1.2 million for charities

The Wells Fargo Championship raised more than $1.2 million for Charlotte-area charities this year. Nearly half of the money – $500,000 – was contributed to Teach For America through Champions for Education, a nonprofit organization that manages and operates the event.

The remaining money went to Levine’s Children’s Hospital, Charlotte-Mecklenburg YMCA, First Tee of Charlotte and other area educational foundations, youth organizations, outreach programs and relief efforts that helped provide support to the tournament.

Teach For America has been the tournament’s primary beneficiary since 2003. The 2014 tournament is scheduled for April 28-May 4 at Quail Hollow Club. Ticket renewals are available at wellsfargochampionship.com or 704-554-8101. -- David Scott
