Big-hitter Mobley to host local radio golf show

If you've ever seen David Mobley hit a golf ball, you haven't forgotten it.

There are long hitters, really hitters and there's David Mobley.

He won the 2004 Remax World Long Driving Championship and he's made a nice career out of bashing golf balls ridiculous distances. He's been featured in magazines, on television and made countless appearances where audiences have watched his power in disbelief.

Starting next month, Mobley -- who lives in the Charlotte area -- will host a one-hour radio show about golf. Named 'The Golf Mob,' the show will air 7-8 a.m. on WFNZ, 610 AM starting Feb. 13.

Mobley, who was a central character in The Golf Channel's 'Big Break X, Michigan' will talk about golf, tell stories and offer his own perspective on the game.

Well, if he is as big a jerk as the first 2 comments posted, he should fit right in at WFNZ.

Have any of you won the Remax Long Drive? Do you even know the man? I can say that I have at least met with him briefly to look at some of his long drive equipment and he seemed to be a cool guy and knowledgeable when it comes to long drive comps. Never seen him play 18 holes but I did see him in the 2004 Remax Long Drive and I did see him on Big Break. Based on what I seen, he seems to be pretty good to say the least. Maybe you know him personally better than I, but at least give him credit where credit is due.

I have played 18 with him and have spent some time with him. The whole big break personna was acting. This guy is incredibly personable and fun. This will be a great fit for him. And, as far as golf, playing with him is unforgettable. He hits it 50 yards plus farther than anybody you know...and straight. He can get in the scoring zone, but his incredible lag/power causes some problems with his irons.

I played behind him at the Southern Open on the Tar Heel Tour a few years ago. After blowing about 4 balls OB on the front 9, he walked off the course. People were rolling their eyes and saying this was about par for the course (no pun intended) for him.

Have seen him several times at events. Makes them fun and entertaining. Willing to share his knowledge. He is long drive champion - give credit where credit is due.

I look forward to listening to the new golf show and believe Mobley to be a great fit as host.

Mobley knows a lot about golf and many of the personality's on tour for interesting dialogue.

I do not know of a person whom plays golf that has never gotten frustrated on a golf course which certainly includes me!

Best of luck Dave

I have had the opportunity to get to know Dave Mobley and I'm honored to have him as my good friend.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and respond accordingly, but keep in mind that no one is perfect.
I met Dave during a corporate outing / exhibition and was extremely impressed by his talents and most importantly by the way he interacted with the participants which happened to be my customers. You've got my support and many others big guy so make it happen!

I have had the great pleasure to play golf with Mobley on a few occasions. I can tell you he can play the game, yes he can hit it a mile but the rest of his game has merit as well.

He is a fun guy to play with and he is a very nice person once you get to know him! Everyone has an opinion and mine happens to be "he's a great guy"!

Having met Mr. Mobley numerous times before, I can safely say that he is not a jerk at all. He was nothing but nice to me and my family. He is good at what he does, so give credit where credit is due. Give credit to David Mobley as a long drive champion.

I have never seen Dave Mobley hit a golf ball. However, he's one of the nicest people I've ever met. I've always found him to be very humble and a great friend. For those with negative things to say, you clearly are small minded and more concerned about tearing an entertainer down who you really don't know. Think about it. Don't forget image is not reality. Just ask Tiger. Big thank you to WFNZ for picking the right man for the job. Look forward to listening to the show.

I am friends with Dave, and he is a great guy....even if he does understand the dynamics of a golf ball better than most PGA pros! ;-)

He is a regular guy who enjoys busting chops like the rest of us, and I've played with him and witnessed him shoot 68 on one of the toughest courses in Charlotte.

He will be a welcome addition to WFNZ. Good luck Mobs!
