Woods talking to fans, not media, before Wells Fargo

If you're interested in what Tiger Woods thinks about Quail Hollow, the Wells Fargo Championship and the state of his golf game, he's going to talk about those things on his website (www.tigerwoods.com) Monday rather than address the media prior to the tournament next week.

Rather than do a pre-tournament media session at various events, Woods will post a video on his website that will include him answering questions submitted by fans via his Twitter account and Facebook. The first video is expected to be posted on Monday.

"Instead of talking to the media, he'll talk directly to his fans," Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg said. "With social media today, it made sense to connect to (fans) so we'll selectively pick some events to do that."

Steinberg said Woods has made himself available for a formal interview or an informal gathering with reporters prior to the start of each tournament he has played. That will change at Quail Hollow next week. He will not address the media on Wednesday either before or after his pro-am round.

Woods will still talk with the media after he plays tournament rounds and will do pre-tournament interviews where is the defending champion, at major championships and selected events.

Steinberg said the new initiative is not in response to media criticism, most recently when Woods was criticized for kicking a club after hitting a bad shot at the Masters.

"The media will continue to have access to him," Steinberg said. "This isn't anything more than a couple of times a year to interact with the fans. They deserve that.

"This isn't intended to make a statement. This is intended to be more inclusive. This isn't a statement whatsoever. Some in the media might interpret it that way but that's not the intent."

Hey Tiger.....I have four kids and do you know how many times over the past SIXTEEN years I have attended the practice rounds of a golf tournament only to have them disappointed that they could not get your signature or even so much as a simple acknowledgement ? I watched you storm past them so many times I lost count and on many occasions you would disappear from the practice area through a back passage. I am not talking about tournament day, I am talking about practice rounds where the players get a chance to interact and appreciate their fans.

You are a disgrace to the sport and I hope that you spend the few years that you have left watching loyal fans run past you to give attention who someone who deserves it.........TOO LITTLE TOO LATE TIGER......

Gee Mark (or maybe "Mr. Enabler" would be a better title), posting on Facebook is nice, but if Tiger really wants to "connect with the fans", maybe he might try making eye contact with them or signing a few autographs. Seems to work for Mickleson.

This is just a way for Tiger to dodge the tough questions he doesn't feel like answering. There's no reason why he can't do the traditional and expected media events AND do this social media thing. But he's Tiger, and it should be clear by now he doesn't intend to turn over a new stripe.

Have comments been "disabled" for this thread? Because I posted one (quite benign) about 8 hours ago and it has yet to appear.

The petulant toddler has spoken. We have all played with swearing sailors and club throwing jack wagons. It is not fun.

All I need to do is watch the video of his 16th hole at Augusta tantrum.

Dear Tiger: Please go away already.

How can you not interpret it that way? He already answers questions on twitter/facebook. He's keeps making excuses about this golf swing, and now excuses with avoiding media. Tiger, scrap your coach, stop making excuses and grind it out like your dad would do. Oh ya and clean up your mouth and actions, the first week of April you not only embarrassed yourself but the game of golf. Now get out there and win Quail Hollow! Good Luck

So you're defending this Junior? What a hack you are, you take your hero worship of this clown to a new level. Are you even capable of producing a piece where you DON't mention this clown?

It is so sad to watch a once great golfer go the way that Tiger has. His personal conduct and attitude has lost him many fans. He is still all about Tiger and watch how he completely ignores fans as he walks from tee to green on the course. But yet, there are those who worship at the Tiger altar. His handlers and coach is now starting to blame the media and sports reporters for casting him in a bad image. Imagine that!

there will be no media soon the world does not need overpaid reporters and newspapers that charge money for something that is free on the internet. the only reason he chose to do this is the media feels they have to ask dramatic questions to sell newspapers and get headlines
or ratings on TV, I salute him, and hope more join in the ban on negative reporing.

Woods is not talking TO fans with his little videos, he's talking AT them ... talking TO someone means that you are interacting with the person you're talking to ... that's something Tiger is notorious for NOT doing unless its a sponsor or good for his image ...

Augusta has the right to use discrimatory practices, but Tiger doesn't have the right to not give a pretournament press conference. Professional golf is a disgrace not Tiger. He has done more for golf than ANYONE. That includes Nicklaus, Palmer, and phony Mickleson. Check the ratings and appearance fees he receives.

Good for you Tiger! There's no law that says you have to always talk to the buffoons that make up the media. And to h*ll with these wet fart commenters on this board who think they're able to critique others from their glass houses! Do your thing Tiger and let the haters hate.

"Professional golf is a disgrace not Tiger. He has done more for golf than ANYONE. That includes Nicklaus, Palmer, ..."

BLAH BLAH BLAH thats hilarious. Take up comedy but dont quit the day job.

You got it all upside down and backwards Jasper. Woods is now the biggest POS in all of pro sports bar none. Who is bigger?

He is a disgrace to the 1000 year old game of golf unworthy to be mentioned in the same sentence as the greats of the game past or present.

Inside word is Woods even now hires cheerleaders for tv in his PGA events to make it look good. Unreal.

Very weird and coincidental his alltime top cheerleader has been stiffed for QH? This is a first... Guess he dosent think so much of a reporter boy at the CO eh?

Woods is a disgrace. He has no shame or he would never show his face again in public. There was a time not so long ago when public figures had integrity and would go into remote obscurity or self imposed exile in cases half as bad as this. Today even the dishonorous media promotes comebacks of scoundrels. Society has changed for the worse.

Just stay home, Tiger.

Doesn't Tiger have certain responsibilities to the tournaments he plays in, their sponsors, and the PGA Tour? Isn't doing the occasional media event to promote the tournament part of being a professional golfer?

What a shame the potentially greatest golfer of all time is such a selfish, petulant jerk. Not everyone can have the same class, dignity and grace of a Nicklaus, Palmer, Watson or Player, but Tiger keeps demonstrating that even after all he's been through, he just refuses to grow up and act like an adult.
